Running DemoApplicationTests causes the casting error below. Attaching @Transactional to the Test Controller works, however.

Thanks for the repro, I think this issue is due to the Coroutines handling code in TransactionalInterceptor that makes the assumption that a ReactiveTransactionManager will be used, but that's not the case here since Spring MVC and Spring Data JPA are used.
I guess the behavior should be consistent with what happens when using Mono<String> for similar use case which seems to not break. That's maybe also the opportunity to clarify and document how non Reactive transactions on Reactive/Coroutines APIs behaves.

@sdeleuze I've committed a revision that moves the coroutines invocation decision to invokeWithinTransaction, relying on a repurposed CoroutinesInvocationCallback which suggests coroutines support and provides target and arguments for it. Could you please double-check that this works for you and resolve this issue accordingly?
