The missing method that the stacktrace is complaining about was introduced in Spring Framework 5.3.3, and that is the version that Spring Boot 2.4.2 depends on. So the fact that it's not found shows that, at runtime at least, you have a version of spring-core that is not 5.3.3, but is an old, incompatible version.
Maybe you have hard-coded another value for the spring-framework.version property, or maybe you have a transitive dependency depending on an old version of spring-core, and which somehow wins.

There is something a bit unusual about this as both the code the missing method and the code that's calling it are in spring-test. ApplicationEventsTestExecutionListener is also new in 5.3.3 so it would appear that there are two spring-test jars on the classpath. With the first occurrence being from 5.3.2 or earlier and the second being 5.3.3. This is still a classpath or build misconfiguration, though, and is out of Spring Boot's control.
