SpringBoot schema.sql fails in H2 database tests

The following test used to work in 2.6.x, but fails since 2.7.x. What's the problem here? Or is it a bug?

Downgrading to <h2.version>1.4.200</h2.version> would fix the problem. But what exactly is the problem here?

Spring Boot 2.7 upgraded H2 from 1.x to 2.1: https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-boot/wiki/Spring-Boot-2.7-Release-Notes#h2-21

You'll have to fix your SQL queries.

To be honest, please review the issue: the sql is as simple as:

create table fruits (
    fruit_id int(10),
    PRIMARY KEY (fruit_id)
);

This is not just an issue example, I tested this as written. While this is totally valid sql, it still fails in 2.7.x, and succeeds in 2.6.x. Please reopen.

It isn't universally valid SQL as int doesn't typically support a size. It's a database-specific feature and the migration guide that's linked to from the release notes that @mhalbritter already pointed you to touches on this:

Some other non-standard SQL syntax has been restricted to related compatibility modes. Since H2 2.0.204 there is a LEGACY compatibility mode that provides some limited compatibility with previous versions.

Oracle-style units were never supported officially without being in Oracle compatibility mode, although some worked before. For example, the length of the VARCHAR datatype cannot be more specified using CHAR but CHARACTERS or OCTETS. CHAR and BYTE need to be used in Oracle compatibility mode.

There's nothing we can do about this in Spring Boot so there's no benefit to reopening this issue. You need to update your SQL to meet H2 2.x's requirements or enable the appropriate compatibility mode.
