Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new and empty Spring 3.0.0 project
  2. Run tests (will work fine)
  3. Add the spring-kafka-test dependency
  4. Run tests again

This is out of Spring Boot's control and occurs without any involvement from Spring Boot. For example:

The new global embedded broker feature added a hard dependency for the platform launcher.

As a work around, please use

With the non-boot version. With boot, you don’t need the version.
